Top Trends in 2017: Tropical Vibes

Palm frond backdrops, golden pineapple centerpieces, exotic florals—we’re sharing our inspiration for one of the hottest trends of the year!

While we’ve covered Pantone’s Color of the Year in all it’s greenery glory, we can’t get enough of another foliage-fresh trend that has us dreaming of sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Tropical Vibes has been a big, ahem, splash on the scene this year—from small details like miniature pineapple seating cards to high impact design like a palm leaf-laden backdrop that makes any couple’s nuptials feel like a dreamy island occasion.  And because a picture speaks a thousand words, we’ve gathered our favorite images that give us all the feels and endless tropical inspo!

Adaptable to a variety of styles, tropical decor can range from the traditional to contemporary—like several of the photos above that feature gold accents for a modernized look.  How amazing are the geometric shapes and floral arrangements in place of a table runner?  It’s no secret that Jordan has an affinity for painting things gold—like a unique backdrop she created from suspended long stem golden roses for a client’s wedding—and gold-hued pineapples would certainly fit the bill.  In fact, they’d set the stage for many fun decor details.  “I would literally use pineapples in many ways like centerpieces, chargers and custom foil detailing of palms and pineapples on the invitation suites,” she adds.

Envision your guests relaxing in a chic hammock or reclining on stylish white lounge furniture while sipping on mojitos and noshing on passed trays of fresh sushi. There are a variety of ways to incorporate palm fronds, banana leaves (hello custom dinner menus!), arrangements touting exotic flowers like bamboo orchids and hibiscus blooms and equally tropical prints. “I love the idea of a custom stage facade made out of custom laser cut palm leaves, or even a custom palm-shaped dance floor!” says Jordan. “Also, using wallpaper that is palm envy-inspired to wall off the room would be a unique touch.”
